Swollen hands

December 13, 2008 Leave a comment

I sat at the computer and wrote from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. with a half-hour break for lunch. For some strange reason, I’m back at the keyboard and just noticed that my hands are swollen. They usually swell when write all day.

There’s something wrong with my rhetoric paper. It shouldn’t take this much effort to crank out a 15-16 page seminar essay. This means I’m not entirely committed to what I’m saying, or that something isn’t coming out in the wash. I feel the ideas are fighting me–like they’re stuck or something. Maybe my writing knows it needs to hurry-up…and that never works. Once the words know they’re under pressure, writing is rarely easy.

On top of this bullshit, I have to revise my thesis for 817 (full revision due Thursday). I’ve not yet had success revising 10 page chunks under a week let alone a 28 page chunk in four days. This will be a crash course in revising. M thinks I can do it in three days, but she’s already got this process down.

Now my hands are tingling. I think it’s time to give them a rest. We leave for P-Town in six days and I can’t wrap my brain around the idea of getting close to being done.
